![]() There is no better time to reflect and talk with God than just after reading His Word. We are his children and he desires to have a personal relationship with us. Maybe the reading caused you to think about an attitude or lifestyle change? Sometimes scripture will even share glimpses of God’s nature we may not have seen or rememberd before? Whatever the application to your life, write down how it has impacted and spoke to you and how it may have caused you to respond today. How is the scripture you read speaking to you? Maybe you read something that gave you hope because you are discouraged. Now, take a moment to digest what you have observed and think inward about your life and your relationship with God. Be sure to keep your thoughts within the original context of who the message was written to and why it was being shared. What happened in the story? When did it take place? Where did this happen? Why did this happen? How did it happen? Take a few moments to try and summarize your reading. Who was the passage talking about? It may be more than one person. Using each of these will help provide you with a fairly complete understanding of what happened. Journalists have use the “Five W’s and one H” for a long time while gathering facts. We want to understand as much about the truth from our scripture reading as possible. Next, allow God to speak to you about the scripture passages you have read. Was there was a verse that really stood out to you? Write that verse down. It might be helpful to read it a second time. Reflect for a moment about what you just read. Whatever it is, right down the name of the book, chapter and verses like this “Luke 1:1 -15”. It may be a chapter or it could just be a few paragraphs. Maybe one of the Gospels like Matthew or Luke would be a good start. For example, taking a month to read the book of Mark? It probably would not be a good idea to start with Revelation. Jesus went through the same thing I am going through which is why he wants me to ask him for help. God made me a promise that I am waiting to be fulfilled and I believe but its hard. God is telling me to ask Jesus to help me with my unbelief. I do believe, I just don’t want to be disappointed.Ī: This verse is instruction. O: I do believe I’m just scared it wont happen. S: I do believe, help me overcome my belief! Mark 9:24 I wrote them down all in the same place, so when I when I needed that encouragement later it was handy. If you want to longer than 10-15 minutes you could do longer passages but when I first started out, I did one verse everyday. Its a great way to get some time in with God and it helps you dig deeper into the word. ![]() Its so simple, it can easily be done in 15 minutes. The SOAP method is one I found on Pintrest a few years ago and I really like it. I am going to be trying a few of them out and letting you guys know how they work. I have been trying to do 30 minutes a day 5-6 days a week. ![]() Do you feel like you do enough bible study? I know I don’t.
